The Chamber Choir, vocal soloists, piano and string quartet perform titles like The Village Blacksmith, Alpine Flower, The Quarrelling Neighbours and Strike the Cymbal by familiar Victorian-era composers such as Auber, Balfe, Claribel, Weckerlin and Barnaby. Candlelight & Wine takes place in the gracious Pacific Ballroom of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and is presented in elegant cabaret style, with the audience seated at tables. With the inclusion of an exciting silent auction of attractive goods and services, this is also one of the Choir’s most important fundraising events. Part I features music by ‘young great composers’ (Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn and Britten, all writing when they were the same age as our competition composers). Part II will be new pieces by ‘great young composers’ (five previous winners of past Young Composers Competitions). Part III will feature the premieres of this night’s ‘choral winners’ and presentation of this year’s competition awards) and Part IV highlights five composers whose music we first heard in our Interplay Composer Workshops. It should be an amazing display of youthful creativity. However, there will be no age requirement to be in the audience - all you need is a desire to cheer on the next generation of choral music makers. FESTIVAL “LATINO SOY”
